You can save a lot of money by learning to do things yourself. You can also cost yourself a lot of money by trying to do too much yourself. Let’s take your car for instance. You can save some money by changing your own oil. It’s not too complicated and there’s not too much you can mess up. However, you might not want to repair your brakes. It’s complicated and the stakes are too high.

I would put your estate plans in the same category as brake pads. Don’t try to save money by using a service that allows you to write your own wills. Estate planning is complicated and there is too much at stake try to do it yourself. It’s not worth saving a thousand bucks or two today and missing out on something that can save your heirs much more.

If you need help finding a good estate planning attorney, let me know. I have a few I can recommend.
