Can I tell you a secret? Last Thursday and Friday I took a staycation. Yes, in the midst of this pandemic, I took time to recharge. I had already reached out to all of my clients, many of them multiple times over the past month. It was time for a break. I set my email out of office notice and promised myself I wouldn’t check my work email.
I focused on having fun with my 20-month old daughter and my wife. There was a lot of time spent pushing Rae in a swing, reading books, chasing the dog together, etc. It was wonderful. I also caught up on sleep, went for runs and bike rides, and talked to my wife.
I can’t tell you how nice it was to take a break. I highly recommend you do the same. Watching the news every hour to see updated virus case totals, whose fault everything is, and how bad the economic numbers come out is not a good plan for the next few weeks. Neither is trying to figure out how that will affect your investments.
Exercise, read a book (try a paper version to reduce screen time), talk to your friends, cook a nice meal…whatever it takes for you to get a break. Make sure to do it. You’ll be amazed at how wonderful it will feel.
